Hong Kong skies are normally famous for one thing - smog. But this weekend after 4 long years, the National Day fireworks were back with a bang - or several bangs. Twenty three minutes to be precise (as they love to be here!). For 23 glorious minutes, the beautiful Vicoria harbour skyline was filled with shimmer and shine. I have always loved fireworks and having missed seeing the 4th of July fireworks this year, I was very excited to see the National Day fireworks. V was also super excited to take a night time ferry and watch the fireworks. To be fair so was I! In true mummy style, I am rarely out and about at night. Being a Covid baby, V's only true time watching a fireworks display was at Disney (talk about first world deprivation!).
Hong Kong is one of the world's most congested cities, and never more so than during a special event. Especially one that has been cancelled for the last four years. Having lived in NJ and NY for most of my life, not once did I brave the crowds to watch the famous ball drop. This time, armed with 3 kids no less, we managed to get a beautiful view of the whole display from hubby's office.
As I looked down on the people gathering on the harbour, I definitely felt fortunate not to be braving the crowds. Reports say there were over 400,000 people lining up from 2 pm on both sides of the water. Hong Kong did not disappoint - there were three barges set in the middle of the water to shoot off the display. There were hearts, stars, shimmering drops (and smiley faces - although I definitely missed this)! It was a truly beautiful display and a symbol of a return to normal life - truly normal as there was hardly a mask in sight!
This weekend also marked our third Mid Autumn festival in Hong Kong. As per tradition (how have I been here for 3 of these that its now tradition!), we spent the evening on the beach playground with our community watching the full moon. This year we upgraded our glow sticks for full on glow masks.

Thankfully, not accesorized with a facial mask. All in all a wonderful long weekend!
